The Story
MacLean & Bruce curate exclusive whisky journeys across Scotland for guests seeking authenticity and understated luxury.
For this private commission, I was invited to document a four-day experience on the Isle of Islay — photographing the landscapes, distilleries, and quiet moments that define the spirit of the island.
The brief was simple: to tell the story of the journey naturally, without staging or intrusion. My task was to observe, anticipate, and capture the atmosphere as it unfolded — the warmth of the hosts, the craftsmanship behind the whisky, and the character of the island itself.
The Process
Working discreetly alongside the group, I followed the rhythm of the tour — mornings spent exploring distilleries, afternoons along windswept coastlines, and evenings marked by laughter and shared drams.
Every frame was composed to balance authenticity and elegance — using natural light, soft tones, and considered composition to bring the story to life.
Aerial photography added a sense of scale and place, connecting the intimacy of the experience to the wider landscape of Islay — from Bowmore's rooftops to the rugged western shores.
The Outcome
The final collection served as a visual record of a rare journey — a personal archive for the guests and a celebration of Scotland's whisky culture.
Each image tells a part of the story: connection, craft, and the timeless beauty of the island.
